Where Digital Transformation Goes to Die

[Music] hey how's it going this Keith Towson from the CTL visor comm we're gonna talk about digital transformation or rather where digital transformation goals to die I work for VMware now so you would think I'd be disappointed when I gone to a customer site and I pitched the value of a product like VMware reavie realized automation which is an orchestration tool and the customer says oh no no no we're already using service now for orchestration and we've been extremely successful well actually I'm not disappointed the
VMware is a big folio company I'm sure if we can't help them with automation and orchestration there's other ways we can help them in but I'm much more encouraged by that organization that I'm working with is a for thinking organization that's all able to get over the hurdles of digital transformation Automation is one of those areas that we run into the roadblocks the cultural world roadblocks of digital transformation you need to automate processes that are extremely I guess the best description politically difficult to navigate I
give the example of the Oracle DBA the Oracle DBA has a very difficult job of making assuring that data stays consistent available and accessible so that the business can run they have these processes they've used over the past 20 years that have proven to work and keep the business going digital transformation can disrupt their jobs so they'll be a little more than resistant to change sometimes this is where you know we need the agility to be able to provision qae devtest cloud-based resources that require oracle
refreshes and the DBA just simply doesn't want or trust the process to go away so why here customers say you know what we've Automation we've implemented orchestration from a VMware side of the house I'm like oh well there's opportunities for us to talk about how we can talk about network automation then other products that VMware have but more excitingly the business itself has embraced digital transformation in a way that enables them to get past these political hurdles the lesson it is if you're looking at software
or hardware that promises agility look past purchasing for software and talk about how do you avoid that software but from becoming shelfware software that you've bought that you just simply don't use because of cultural limitations within your environment you can find this and other great videos at CTO dosed comm you can follow me on twitter at CTO over at the seats advisor is the handle for the corporate bean and at CTO visor is my personal handle talk to you next CTO DOS
