Velocloud Acquisition and VMware NSX
Transcript
hey how's it going - Steve Townsend from the CTO Viacom you're watching today use CTO daily dose so VMware announced that they've acquired Velo cloud SD one of the leaders in FD win this is more or less vmware entering a new market of course vmware has the wildly popular data center software-defined solution nsx and one of the questions i saw well you know what how's nsx envelope cloud integration gonna go you know this is apples and oranges nsx is data center virtualization specifically the direct or
specifically focused around virtual machines containers and data center software-defined networking that goes on at the edge and talking about reducing complexity and cost around MPLS circuits and when connectivity AKA ESD win is a completely different market there is opportunities for VMware to do things such as for some customers that might want to have a firewall that does both firewalling for the data center and firewalling for the wind to combine and have security objects that span the two but outside of security I don't really see a
really big play today for integrating nsx and envelope cloud this is VMware not being left behind in a growing segment now as we talk about projecting virtual machines out to the edge and hybrid IT and a lot of challenges that happens in the cloud Velo cloud most definitely will come into play Velo Clark cloud is a strong partner with cloud providers such as AWS they're using AWS endpoints to host their cloud based controller however this isn't a hybrid IT plea correctly this is interesting move I've
been where this is saying that hey we are a were much bigger than just the data center and we're much bigger than just a software-defined networking within the data center so competing services from Cisco now that cisco has Vitello that's it for this CTO of ours a daily dose for more daily doses follow me on youtube or you can subscribe to all things CTO advisor at the website WWC teo visor calm talk to you next CTO daily dose
