The enterprise shouldn't ignore OpenStack: TechTalk 41

com with episode 41 of virtualized Geeks Tech talk so it's Monday morning beginning of the open stack conference and couple of big kind of big deal uh not necessarily announcements but presentations so as part of the keynote both two old school companies this Disney and the oldest of old school financial services companies Wells Fargo announced that they're using openstack in significant ways this is not just pockets of companies using uh products as part of a lab but this is real uh customer facing or production uh systems um running on openstack cloud so why is this important uh well if you watch the last video you understand where I'm going with the whole software defined abstracted data center ideal that the ability to move operations in a fast method that keeps up with business is extremely critical for even the traditional Enterprise the number one challenge that I'm many cios face is Shadow it Shadow it mainly comes in the fir form of individual departments namely like the marketing department whipping out their credit card going to AWS and getting the capability that they need to run campaigns as quickly as possible the fact of the matter is Amazon web services and other public Cloud Solutions probably really don't meet the needs of most Enterprise customers uh they probably meet the needs of most web.
2o Enterprises that can build their applications around the constraints of a public Cloud offering but more likely than not for an Enterprise customer uh especially sub dep departments such as marketing or sales or any others um Department that would need elastic compute for a finite period of time the capability and apis and the hooks and the uh leveraging the existing data and the Erp or CRM system that the Enterprise currently uses just isn't there so when you combine a solution such as the abstracted or software defined Data Center and your existing it uh assets you give the business an extremely capable platform that's elastic that can meet the needs of uh any business demand any reasonable business demand just as quickly but much more fully than AWS or Rackspace or any other company can by themselves so the whole open stack in Wells Fargo the whole open stack in Disney is a very important event kind of in the industry that I've been waiting on you know one of my more popular videos is when I C said the Enterprise should just ignore openstack at that time almost uh two years ago I felt that that was the case the openstack kernel just wasn't where it needed to be for the Enterprise that take it to where open uh companies like Disney Wells Fargo PayPal and such are taking it today so I'm pretty excited for this uh open stack Summit wish I was there uh you guys uh continue to pound hopefully the presenters and your fellow uh Summit uh goers with great questions I'm looking forward to a lot of great content especially from the V Brown Bag crew shout out to those guys great work that they do and they're doing at open at the open stack Summit uh look for my next video I think I'll do a couple of tech talks throughout the week just as a add-on value to the open stack Summit thanks a lot follow us on uh Twitter at virtualized geek and on the web www.
