Storage Field Day 7 Review

hi it's Keith Townson from virtualized geek.com just wrapping up storage Field Day s a grueling three days but well worth it got a chance to see some really interesting uh technology from all the presenters I'll do a quick wrap up of each one catalogic copy data solution uh they talked kind of what I expected when it comes to copy data I like the fact that there are software play and they don't use an appliance uh very interesting solution hope to go into some more detail kind
of I still see a challenge when it comes to uh not necessarily the technology but the business processes around using copy data uh Cloud Aran was um interesting S3 storage for the Enterprise uh complete these guys take S3 compatibility extremely seriously looking forward to D diving deeper into some of those use cases connected data the foul transporter drobo guys really interesting they gave the delegates a foul transporter to take home and test I look forward to uh putting that to the test and maybe even giving
up my Office 365 uh workflow for synchronizing uh data using one drive uh EMC gave up their slot to VMware who prevented who presented vsan a little controversy within the delegates with uh vsan presentation not sure we if we saw anything new but it was a great feel and a great time to get a hold of the creators of vsan and kind of get the inperson feel and and energy of where vsan is going uh the guys over at EXA blocks I hadn't heard of them
before Tech field day and I have to say I'm really impressed with this object based foul store uh that's easy to expand they have some interesting stuff coming out in the future that they put us kind of under embargo looking excited to the future of Xbox uh primary data has the potential to be really industry changing if they can deliver kind on this Viper if you're familiar with EMC Viper they're kind of EMC Viper but for the entire storage landscape will be pretty interesting to see
two other vendors who I think really give vsan a run for the money is spring path and maxer they both tackle software-based hyper converge from uh the ground up they take two different levels spring path supports Docker containers which is pretty mindblowing as well as Master uh has a pretty interesting hybrid model for delivering their application uh or or you can have it delivered via software or a appliance uh which I thought was pretty interesting and both run on everything from vpar to uh KVM and
hyperv so I'm really excited to see some competition in this whole server sand space look forward to feedback on the blogs and uh kind of on twitters uh we'll talk to you guys soon about all of these exciting presenters thanks
