hey guys got his chief thousand from the CTO visor calm you're watching a CTO dose following pure celery twenty nineteen some iPhone eleven max pro pro goes for max max goes pro I don't know the point is we're trying something new to be able to gritty create more quality content let me know what you think so pure celery twenty nineteen this is actually my first interaction with pure other than getting a briefing as a customer or potential customer a few years ago when I was debating on moving to sa P Hana so we'll get into that in a few minutes they're updating marketing I was there invitation of tech field day over the stock I T we did a great job I think of really going after pure to understand where they fit in the marketplace the folks over on the cube did an excellent job Dave Volante of walking through the financials where's pure in the marketplace versus their competition and peers peers doing pretty well on that in from the technology perspective what were the major announcements everybody was really excited about their new product that goes after hard drives pure is laser focused on making sure that they disrupt the traditional spinning disc market and push flash to a point where it's not only price competitive with hard drive spinning disc but it's more of an obvious choice they're going down or out by using POC TLC which is less reliant less performant flash but they're using their software expertise to make up for that you can find out more about that conversation old me ray over at the great beers on storage which I sometimes co-host went to good detail around that solution I'm more interested in cloud blocks as someone deals with hybrid infrastructures you know we've done a lot of content with NetApp HPE Dell EMC and these three companies have wholeheartedly moved into cloud storage to make sure they have a consistent third story between the private infrastructure and the public cloud these other companies go a different route kind of led by faction who's kind of had hip and hip with Dell EMC and VMware cloud on AWS go with a software-as-a-service model where you kind of the the back the cloud back in is invisible to you might take your unity storage array and sync it to a faction host at unity array and magically that storage appears in DMC in AWS the same theme when NetApp and HPE they're taking that approach you don't see the provisioning of that storage on the backend vs.
cloud blocks takes a very I think what is this non cloud native but once you look at what they're doing inside of the V PC quite impressive from a technology perspective you can't just take a ec2 instance and make a array there's just a bunch of technical reasons why that just would be a desirable architecture so they worked with AWS to make what looks like a flash blade and the cloud and from a customer perspective once you provision it you have a all flash array on Prem and all flash array looking thing in the cloud and operationally you have a very similar solution so they're going after that operational consistent use case of saying if you're accustomed to managing our software on premises what you'll get in the public cloud looks very much the same it just exists in your V PC highly recommend you take a look at video that we did with tech field day in which we really went into the technical details so overall what did I think any customer conversations I talked to a couple of customers at the pure event some customers that that that pure is trying to route rules specifically at HPE customer you know there was a lot of great things he had to say about nimble which i think to piece pretty closely in the market with what the customer was looking at from a pure perspective but he had a lot of you know no kind of mistrust and HPE keeping nimble what he loves about nimble so he's kind of tempted by the pure story I think all in all customers were kind of man about competitively they liked where pure is going Fury's going where they expect them to go but I didn't walk away with any discussions where customers who were wowed me I I thought it was very I thought it was a very interesting show there obtain solution which are using obtained for a caching layer was really interesting the direct memory option for solutions like s ap the ability to reduce your cost to 65% of DRAM cost and get 90 percent of performance that's a pretty compelling story at least one paper I have to do some math because you save 20% cost when you go with DRAM I'm sorry when you go with storage class memory directly in a server and you get much closer to DRAM performance than you would with the solution from pure so that math cost per performance for specifically the s AP workload I don't think it's quite as simple as they made it but overall a really interesting company I look forward to covering them in the future if you have any questions for me you have some feedback you can reach me on twitter at CTO visor tell me what you thought of the shot and edited on iphone is it something that you want to see more and hear more about talk to you next CTO dos
