[Music] hey how's it going as Keith Towson from the CTO visor calm but today you CTO dose asking the question are we post DevOps at AWS reinvent 2017 I heard this term thrown around a couple of times not just by the AWS folks but by the many vendors a couple hundred vendors on the show floor this year and there's this concept that AWS is for builders people looking to build business solutions on top of AWS Amazon Web Services technologies the operations Wow should be a concept
should not be something that's focused on I don't know if I agree with that you know I look at no further than Netflix Netflix talks about their chaos clunky and how they've built operations into their up into their application so they're kind of the the ultimate example of DevOps where there is no difference between the operations team quote-unquote and development team the applications architecture takes into account operations there has been no drought of vendors looking to help you solve the challenge of monitoring performance uptime accession
in New Relic they're huge when it comes to company size and product offering the concept of taking operations simplifying it in helping developers focus on solving business logic is what this crowd is about now the challenge is that most organizations are not greenfield if you're building the application from the ground up some of these solutions will definitely help you when it comes to operations however if you still have legacy applications you have apps built on Oracle Business Suite s ap microsoft.net applications that are not going
to be replac formed any time soon but you want to adopt dev ops principles in managing these athletes these legacy applications which allows you to shrink your traditional ops team and put more resources towards building no devops quote-unquote applications so while it's the marketing term and I see some organization is really going after it I think most of my viewers will see no DevOps as unrealistic goal sure you can strive for it but from an architecture perspective just from a brownfield knowing that you have so
