Oracle Cloud - Alternative to AWS?

[Music] hey guys got a few thousand from the CTO advisor Tom with a CTO dose talking about Oracle cloud infrastructure is it in at all alternative to all the big three cloud providers AWS Azure Google compute you know what I'm a management sorting by trade so I'm going to start off with it depends but I promise you about your video I'll give you yes to melt answer here we go so it depends Oracle cloud infrastructure is Oracle's primary cloud solution obviously includes past database solution if
you love Oracle databases honestly it's going to be an alternative to AWS Oracle is from a price perspective making it very depends on how you look at it either stick or care it to use their platform ones their platform they can look at it as a price break to you who's Oracle database my Oracle cloud or a price penalty to use Oracle database on AWS really depends on how you look at it but primarily I want to compare infrastructure as a service offerings between Oracle and
all the other big three cloud providers and cloud filled a 3d held by 2stop IT which invited me and hosted me for the week to talk to several vendors Oracle cloud infrastructure was one of those vendors now I had heard from Oracle cloud earlier in the year when we attended a blogger day for Ravello systems which is wholly owned by Oracle and runs on top of Oracle cloud infrastructure I heard two completely different messages they were similar in the sense that you could take your traditional
workloads run them on Oracle cloud infrastructure and then use that base to improve applications Oracle called it land and improve or move and improve that's where the message is stopped Ravel systems does a really great job of giving you traditional tools to manage your virtualized infrastructure originally Ravel systems ran on top of AWS and Google compute you can think of it as fertilised VMware on top of these traditional cloud providers the problem with that is that Ravel was extremely slow compared to Newton cloud services natively
or even your private infrastructure therefore the use cases were fairly limited to test and development now that Ravello is able to run on top of Oracle cloud infrastructure you get a much more need of cloud experience but with the tools of ravel systems what are these tools well you can virtualize your network on top of the cloud can take your traditional layer to network your applications that speak multicast take those VM BK's import them into Ravello and run them on what is proven to be a
pretty robust bare metal platform Oracle cloud infrastructure so this is a more traditional lifting shift if I was to say who does it compete with I look at VMware cloud on AWS the concept of taking your VMware infrastructure and running it in AWS infrastructure this is more of taking your VMware workloads and run them in a similar fashion on a Ravello systems now you can remove Ravello systems completely out the alice's equation and run vmware vsphere on bare metal you can run bare metal holes the
hyper-v KVM really doesn't matter these are bare metal servers the ideas that you get an API into a bare-metal cloud provider in which you can leverage their s3 compatible thoughts on the backend the Oracle databases you can run the applications your way so much more flexible cloud and that way is that a good thing hmm depends on where you're at with your cloud strategy here's what we get to the answer if you have a mandate then you should lift and shift from the cloud and you
have no immediate plans or refactoring your application is for cloud I highly recommend if you take a hard look at Oracle OCI Oracle cloud infrastructure or real more cloud on AWS these are more operationally and price friendly towards eagle lift and shift model if you are going for a cloud native approach you want to use them you want to use auto scaling you want to use all of these Azure container services types of of solutions Oracle quite isn't there they're focusing on the lift and shift
traditional enterprise workloads today and as they get more customers they'll introduce more of these advanced cloud services which means you know what that gives you your answer is it a competitive AWS yes if you're looking to you lift and shift if you're looking to use all the cool native features of AWS or modern cloud provider no it's not an option I'd love to hear feedback in the comment section whether you're watching this on LinkedIn the CTO advisors website CTO dose calm or on YouTube let's hear
