hey is Keith towns are from the CTL visor dye condom I'm gonna start out with a controversial statement that I hope will spark some conversation and that's IT infrastructure is not a commodity Amazon Google the names go on and on all these companies invest not in buying technologies not even from VMware or cisco juniper etc they all invest in curating net new technologies capabilities they hire developers Amazon famously went out and created their own virtual network stack to meet their hyperscale needs they see differentiation and
IT infrastructure to provide their IT services on demand what does that mean from the enterprise obviously most enterprises are not going to go out and invest millions if not billions of dollars in their IT infrastructure to create net new capability from a product perspective you're not going to go out and design your own white box white box switches however this debate on whether or not the hypervisor storage network or all commodities it's simply not true they're true if you're a small business and you're debating between
a Netgear switch and a switch from Meraki or cisco you know what maybe that doesn't make a difference for a small business but scale breaks things so if you're debating between VMware and KVM as a generic hypervisor for instance if you're upscale it makes a difference if you're still on vSphere 5.5 then chances are infrastructure isn't making a difference in your business or your business is a little bit behind the curve I'd love to hear from you what do you think is infrastructure a commodity or
