Introducing CloudSimple (VMware Cloud on GCP and Azure)- VMworld 2019

hello welcome to another edition of the CTU advisor now you probably noticed that it'll look a little bit different than the typical CTO advisor goes Keith Townsend he actually allowed me to sit in the post today my name is Bobby Allen I'm the CTO of a company in Charlotte North Carolina called cloud tuner and I have a privilege of hosting another Sharma from cloud so long per engineer no local thank you for being here thank you we want to talk a little bit about cloud so
there's a lot of buzz about you guys in the market right now social media you know give us kind of the the lease that people need to know about who you are what you do what are your products how can you help the enterprise talk to us about that yes so cloud simple is a startup based in the Bay Area you've started about three years ago in 2016 and what we do is enable the invariant consumption as a service in a public cloud okay and our
platform and our technology powers a service that the public cloud provider actually creates and provides okay so the service that we are in market with is Patra beamer solutions it is an offering in the azure cloud from Microsoft that you buy from Microsoft and Microsoft supports it as well and VMware and us are involved in the background the platform and the solution is powered by our technology but it is a Microsoft offering okay and that is how that is our model with with MN will be
a model with our the second provider that we have announced with which is Google and this was announced recently that offering also will be a Google Cloud offering for VMware and however you know the exact mechanics of the go-to-market have to be figured out because it's coming later this year but Google will be the first line of support correct as well thanks so seems like it's very well integrated with what the hyper scale provider is actually doing so the most honestly the contrast maybe between this
beam were offering on top of as your power cloud simple compared to say being seen in AWS what do people need to know about the differences yeah that's a great question so I think in in almost all the key respects it's very much the same but in many respects it's very different so let me highlight the similarities first it is the VMware platform its native vSphere vCenter NSX we signed on hyper-converged a metal infrastructure running inside a public cloud provider environment right and from that standpoint
it offers you the operational continuity with IT you will get to bring in your existing tools and processes and skills and you can lift and shift into the cloud without any disruption right compared to going to native in the public cloud and react attacking applications an IT which is it doesn't really pan out though for existing infrastructure at least and so so from that standpoint it's very much the same you get the platform you know and love in the same way as you consume it on
Prem or you might be consuming India McLaren it addresses well but in some other key respects it's different so for example being a Florida native this is offered by VMware and it is sewn and supported by them and so if you want to kind of go for your the rest of your cloud needs so to speak you would go to the AWS right if you're if you if you're interested in the combined solution whereas with the actual be aware solution but for simple since it's a
Microsoft a friend in one contract in one ila you get everything else in the trout buffet and you get VM back right right and if there's any problem from from a networking standpoint you're trying to connect from a be anywhere but learn to a cloud workload or try to build some sort of hybrid experience for customers or whatnot let's say you have some questions you would go - OH the one name to choke which is my that's exactly I was gonna say the same thing like
the executives in technology when one nectar child don't send me around here for people let me know exactly who's accountable was going to help me so so one thing the nose it's interesting to me when I think about cloud something so you're going to be sitting on top of a battery already got a great solution and as you're going to be in Google is there anything about your solution that allows multi-cloud work little portability or the ability to kind of shift things around between different teams
yeah so our strategy as a company is to be a provider first solution okay meaning that we created a service inside the provider and the provider offers it to the market right and so essentially we don't kind of disintermediate between providers right we are you know when we are in a sure gear and as your first offering and we're in hook of your Google first offering okay however by the very nature of our platform which is VMware and the whole point of that being it's the
same experience everywhere as we were discussing you could at the VMware layer create a triangle between an on-premise deployment or one of the cloud providers and another provider and kind of have your work Lord move freely across them or a mesh so to speak right for higher availability purposes for being able to reach customers where the right location is you know and perhaps to take advantage of unique service offerings that deployed it might have okay so so one of the things that I find a lot
of talking to the enterprise I want to get your thoughts when people are moving were close to the cloud you know you can do lift and but there are a lot of studies you know keep this talk many times of the program violet that your thoughts and fails do you give any coaching around how things need to change behavior culture outside of the technology what else people need to do that really leverage the cloud well yeah I think so I think firstly the definition of lifting
ship is changing hmm because what's happening is lift and shift used to be about really architecture of your applications you're going from traditional to cloud native micro services and other services server less - that change is hard right because oftentimes the developers who wrote that code or the the operators will glue it together they know they're not in the company thread it was put together five years ago application yeah and so trying to think of what you have which you don't perhaps fully understand and trying
to you know put the VGO blocks for something that looks the same somewhere else is a tough to you and so that's why I think you know people have a bad impression of our lifting ship now I think what we are doing with our platform what we investing in the McClaren is is saying no you don't have to do that you get if you want the cloud you get the cloud but if you want the platform you like you get that platform right so all your
tools your skills your processes you know applications and workflows audit compliance that list goes on and on we can remain the same the consistency the consistency is is now there and so I think the architecture we have created an option we have created now actually makes lift and shift possible easy and seamless so what are the other things I'd love to know obviously work with customers you understand the types of workloads that fit or not how would you so you're talking to a CIO he says
I love the class on the solution then thinking about majeure have a heavy beatable footprint how would you help them figure out which workloads are the candidate for this service offering yeah once maybe there aren't ready just you yeah so and give you some word of an obvious answer and perhaps not not so obvious answer so from what point of view you might think okay you know what are the good that books are good for a job right and and what was that a good for
AWS perhaps write and think okay okay with those types of applications perhaps I should choose my provider so for example if you have Windows VMs and you have windows are Microsoft applications then perhaps you might want to choose as your provider and you know if you're developing you know modern applications perhaps you want to go to AWS but I think I think that is not the right way to look at it because great firstly like the Bema platform is a neutral horizontal platform right and it
spans everything in IT and every type of application Under the Sun every provider is also building a platform that supports all sorts of applications and workloads with media services and it's hard to find differences anymore now between not providers although there are still some so I think the right way to look at this is you know what what is the provider that you would like to win the long term relationship with right how do you see the future of your company and perhaps you know choose
one right and try to make that word it's good to have other options you know and with a bigger platform now you you have those options but you know don't really fit in all your application thinking right into into the dimensions that don't really matter excellent so we were talking a little bit off-camera just to get some other history about the firm young company founded in 2016 I believe right here based in Silicon Valley that you all are again have a lot of wonder yourselves on
a lot of momentum as we kind of give you the final word Manoj what is it that people need to know tell them how they can follow you in the company on social media as well and how do they get more information if they wanted to get started with going down this path yeah firstly for people in the VM will show you know they can find us in the max of booth they can find us in the Google booth they can find us in a lot
of our partners who are really happy and excited to work with us learn through break beam and and and others HP in fact as well but in general you know we be on social media with a cloud simple okay that's a good way to follow what's happening in the company but in general like I said our strategy is provider first right referred at the provider and in front of us and between the customer and so if you want to follow what's going on and as you
go to ash your VMware solutions and you can in all the new features and capabilities they're coming from us but it's offered by Microsoft and follow Google to figure out Google Cloud to figure out what's going on on there be aware of coach and you know we are we going to power that as well thank you for house we appreciate it thank you for being on the program with us again I'm not Keith I'm Bobby but check back in with the CTO advisor you've heard that
it's a multi clown and a hypervisor or hybrid cloud world stay in the Keith watch what's happening at the sea tail advisor to get kind of the leash you need to know about what's happening how to navigate all this myriad of choices tune in subscribe to the content final great guests like Munoz to understand products in the market that can really help you transform your business thank you thank you so much for coming
