Has SAP Become a Platform - 7wData Interview
Transcript
hey thanks for joining us again for on the ground coverage as ap sapphire 2019 Orlando Florida the Orange County Convention Center we're at the Hilton attached to the dementia center folks are making their way back and forth to the convention center to sit down with us health conversations around all the change going on in the industry s ap is kind of at the center of that as a ERP vendor and my guest leaves Lucas 7w the data founder data architect and look we're going to deep
right into like the change in the industry s ap faintly this quote advancing you know the 7080 percent depending on the year the world's transactions both of SAV there Fitz is running their manufacturing of HR customer relations traditional ERP solution but I think has been caught up in the throes of digital transformation all of that data transactional and in nature has to be a value what have you seen what have you seen this year well I got connected to sa people or in that since six
months okay I was always kind of blue screens everybody hates it and nobody loves it that kind of approach things were taking a lot of time a lot of effort a lot of consultancy work expensive whatever you name it and then I went to the tech X whatever I the Charmy that they thought okay they take as they explained it to me the oil tanker has changed so they changed course and is shown okay we can be al we're helping your customers we're bringing them success
in a certain way so seeing how that evolves and as well all the acquisitions like they did like side because IQ they acquired the Business Objects and then seeing how that finally embeds within the complete ecosystem of the platform and moving to the cloud providing that so really listen to the custom and trying to help them in being successful with all the modules what they MLS AP that's kind of great to see that such a big company is able to transform himself where are all the
companies these days I'm talking about digital transformation but still not having a hard time where do we start and how do we do that so that's great to see that as if he was an ERP vendors typically HR all the models around that but this is not prevent providing a platform that helps businesses becoming successful in all their processes whatever so that's that's great to see what is happening in that world how they transform their thing so you use the term that therapy in catch feelings
my thoughts around s AP as well I don't know if I would ever have considered a few years ago SAT isn't Plateau you know I've seen people try and use sa P as a platform is kind of you know we have the centralized set of information but si P is a company I don't know is ever embraced that that ideal of having you know as vincible api's relationships an ecosystem that they embrace in a way that you could rely on sa key other than that blue
screen and you have a database schema and if you want to build some around that database schema here's the database schema but other than that you know that that's the extent of the platform talk-through can kind of mind what you've seen on the show floor that you know whether it's cool vendors or capabilities that sa B is now in abling because it's now a platform company yeah what I saw as well what we triggered is this is the on PA a kind of stuff off of
the complete automation but when you say okay I say we already went the extra miles whatever still some of the integration is lacking and that's why they are leveraging the ecosystem whatever so that's that's great to see how they give a podium to do their ecosystem at their farm you know I had a chance by accident by talking to some people that were working for s AP before and now started out their own companies and they bring they build a value proposition around s AP offering
the bringing them back into si P and they tell me okay SE p is helping us as well to make valuable business out of that so we show okay this is what we did around your products whatever we build our business and well our value proposition and they help you in learning your sauce first customers okay it's not only by like like way back in the day in the days that that you said okay we sell the products the license whatever they're really helping their partners
and the radio system getting their where they want not looking at but if you see how they how do you integrate that in there that's that's nice to see so yeah I was just talking to their SVP of cloud partners or partners in general and he was talking about how he's trying to enable the entire ecosystem around migration to explore how one of the challenges that you know is that most s eyes can only handle maybe five projects a year with 2025 coming up the Sun
setting of support for Oracle other databases that's a little they kind of move a lot of people off of traditional distaste Vedic databases to Hana s4 and if partners are only doing five FS eyes are only doing five a year then that's not going to happen so it was all about how does happens he is a SAT executive in able partners to do more and they talked about building factories or conversion factories so low level skill sets they or repeatable skill sets around database migrations so
that sis can focus on more valuable stuff and then even the conversation around solution providers building extensions to SME they work as a key employees and then coming back in interview the company last year that does a contract negotiation that does a software product that does contract smart contract negotiation and they rely heavily when s AP that bring them to the and a lot of these do so culturally it seems like SAT just Ginza yeah definitely related to how I see you you have the startup
scenes whatever and you see the big vendors as well setting up these programs to and raise those startups kind of special environment where they say okay you get the funding whatever we try to connect you but but I see him at NSA fees in a different way like you see people working for sa be still having that network popping out whatever and then coming back in right away not completely banking but they keep the relationship so that's that's pretty smart to see okay give the people
what they like to do anything when I go out just embrace that that they want to go on and do their whole thing and then leverage that and bringing their big in because they already have so much knowledge about a product in itself and you don't really lose it you just get the text for a certain while and then bring it back so my thing instance that's a small movie day working that way so you from now to the next sapphire what are you going to
watch closely when it comes to s if you like what are you either excited about you know I'm gonna watch this copy in this area you know definitely uh my take is among data analytics so trying to bring that into one product you have a BBC the business process consolidation everything is moving into a ICP analytics class one kind of intrigue how will they merge all these products into one state as a BMI despot and then how will they completely be embedded in all the processes
you have s right when you see the theory where you can quickly build applications remember and then really say okay nobody's really a platform I need to build a sandbox application to try it out a business idea for for the business and then one week we have a proof of concept you have to analytics you have the complete ecosystem for products whatever to run your business and then quite intrigued to see how will they make that happen it is you know if you know anything about
s4 versus r3 ASAP has consolidated some products in that from r3 to ask for so we have some experience around it but when you're like Doublemint processes on the ground the Devils in the details a lot of times you know you can't change the you don't want to get into customizing s4 because we've learned what happens we customize our 3 you get into a little bit of trouble so you know as I said it's a delicate balancing act between changing processes versus customizing the platform and
as s AP consolidates these Analects platforms I'll be watching that as well I didn't even know the seven product products that's in America so he's where can people find them or they can find me online oh my god 7w data doctor PE or my twitter handle is bonkers or my 7 w data so at 7 w data Twitter handle or defy me on LinkedIn just on my own name if Bunker's so I think that's about it on social mind if you want to find me online
you can find me or start me on Twitter at CTO advisor and you can find the website and blog the CTO visor calm talking next CTO DOS
