hey it's Keith Townsend principal the CTO advisor I can't believe I've never actually done a video on this this is an extension of our blue money versus green money conversation and we we talk about understanding the value of I.T in this video we're going to do forklifts versus Network switches the portfolio management battle and every organization we have this challenge of making Enterprise I.T investment tangible isn't an intangible thing when I go to the CFO and I say you know what Miss CFO I need to
upgrade my network switches and she checks her email and thinks why I can access my email perfectly fine on premises off-premises and it we've learned to make do let's contrast that to the general manager of manufacturing the economy say hey we need to upgrade or get new forklifts the old forklifts are in the CFO just says you know what stop there I already know orders are getting getting out productivity is lost and the argument is fairly clear as it professionals we should look around and say
hey what happened this is the gap we have to close we need to connect the business value of these it infrastructure Assets in a tangible way so how do we make the argument for forklifts or for Network infrastructure versus forklifts I'd argue that you don't make the argument against but you make the argument in support of I've found it to be an extremely effective math that in my career to talk about how it can help reduce the risk of other business Investments honestly speaking a lot
of I.T Investments are rounding errors for a lot of the investment we look at business where we're talking about a new Erp solution rolling out new factories the I.T required to support that is relatively inexpensive the argument that you should be making is that forklifts moderate forklifts have iot search sensors help get better data to Erp and analytic systems in order to support that the network infrastructure needs to be in place to reduce the risk of the project of rolling out new forklifts is are reduced
