snapshots are not a backup they enable backup not a backup let's get into it EBS elastic block storage is today's AWS product it is specifically designed for ec2 so unlike S3 where I can build web apps and connect my app straight to that object storage platform and API ec2 is the only consumer of EBS elastic block storage this is something that we've tried to replicate in the Enterprise for well over a decade this idea that we can bring just a bunch of disk and attached to
storage abstract that away and then provide storage services to our VMS HCI hyper-converged infrastructure is built on it we've now built storage arrays around mimickling what EBS can do but we haven't gotten there not from the scale in the economies another extremely important difference when it comes to EBS and on-premises solutions like VMware vsphere we can then provision the storage meaning that if we want to make the OS think there's a hundred gig of storage but it's only consuming 20 gigs of storage we can do
