hi it's Keith Townson from the CTO advisor.com you're watching another CTO coffee chat today we're going to talk a little newale or the Dale EMC pivotal VMware merger why am I I don't want to say I'm bullish but I'm most definitely appreciative of the footprint and the power and potential that the new Dale would have once they completely incorporate both EMC and VMware so VMware technically will be a independently managed company with its own Financial objectives its own road map but it will be controlled by

Dale and how is it interesting and this is the part where I find interesting about the V about the VMware and Dale combination VMware and Dale together if you look at the products and services that VMware and Dell offer today you know what not not Inc incredibly exciting they traditional it Enterprise Solutions couple that with EMC storage portfolio if you're dealing with today's Enterprise you know what it's a pretty solid mix of capability however fast forward to a year two three four years from now when

you need to build a cloud native infrastructure how does VMware and Dale answer the B this is where things start to get really interesting VMware Dale EMC from a building blocks perspective everything is there from emc's VX rail Theory to Dale's ability to execute it they have the complete networking stack I think the only thing that they're missing is really a Wireless company which they'll either partner with or buy someone down the line the physical building blocks for a hybrid Cloud infrastructure is there you layer

on vmware's Technologies from their container Management Solutions that they're integrating with VMware vpar containers to their openstack solution which is not exactly scalable but it is a serviceable solution you start to get into a really interesting mix of Technologies if you're an existing Dale VMware EMC shop and you're looking to make that next step into Cloud native it's not going to be a revolution it's going to evolve into it you will not abandon your legacy Erp apps your exchange servers everything that runs your it today

all the applications that drive your business those things won't go away what you will have a need to do is to aggregate the existing technology that isn't easy who can help you do that today there's only a handful of companies from a Consulting perspective that have the capability to get you from a legacy 1.0 infrastructure to This Cloud native 2.0 infrastructure that leverages your existing infrastructure and talks back to your applications the industry at large needs a big mover that will package and commoditize this new

wave of it deal with dware is uniquely positioned to do so from both a hardware and software perspective maybe the only company that comes close in my mind is Microsoft with their aour stack and that's not a hardware specific play they'd have to partner with Hardware providers such as Dale such as HP to have a complete in end Vision so that's overall why I'm bullish on VMware in Dale combined together there's an awful lot of work to do VMware is a little bit short when it

comes to apis and really embracing Dev Ops in the truest sense they they have some work to do on the execution piece but from a pure building blocks perspective I don't think there's a company better poised to take advantage of this bridge between data center 1.0 and data center 2.0 that's it for this episode of the CTO advisor coffee checks talk to you guys next
