Dell Enterprise Capability - CTO Coffee Chat
Transcript
hi it's Keith Townson from the CTO advisor.com with another afternoon you know it's late afternoon and I've discovered doing these coffee checks if I drink coffee in the late afternoon I end up waking up at 4:00 in the morning so we'll have to find a new name for the coffee chats they're not exactly uh coffee induced however great time to talk about uh Dale prior to the EMC acquisition one of the things that kind of kicked this off one I was having a conversation with CA
uh who works with Dale marketing a little bit over a week ago it had to be over a week ago because it was before the announcement and then looking at Michael Dale's interview over on the cube I was thinking about Dale's Enterprise chops before the acquisition one of the things that Dale doesn't get much credit for is kind of of their Enterprise chops Sans EMC a lot of uh Allen I think pick up on the fact that this will expand Dale's Enterprise reach and I think
a lot of times we might get focused on the storage part of the conversation outside of the storage portion of the conversation Dale is still a very trusted partner with a lot of Fortune 500 definitely a lot of Enterprises and most definitely a lot of small SMB shops as well as their Partnerships with companies such as new tanx uh I think one of one of the older hyper converts Solutions also used Dell to OEM their Solutions solid fire I think uses Dell as a OEM so
Dell when it comes to Enterprise chops has been at the Forefront of a awful lot of stuff just kind of reminding you some of the investment Dell has made in Enterprise it that includes the acquisition Quest the acquisition of wise the this is from the end user Computing P point of view they partnered with Nvidia to do some really interesting things on the enduser Computing space with VMware uh their own VMware vsan ready notes their VMware uh evil rail solution they one their initial partners with
EVO with real and then even some of their real just deal only IP the networking piece Dale I don't think get Dell doesn't get I think enough credit when it comes to what they're doing in the white box space so creating white box space uh solutions that work with D's own recently announced Network operating system or working with solutions from companies such as cumulus someone has to manufacture these devices someone we trust with a large Global footprint that can not only manufacture these Solutions but also
support them worldwide one of the earlier post I did was on the value of white box Solutions within the Enterprise everyone kind of clamors for white box Solutions whether they're white Box Storage Solutions whitebox networking Solutions or even whitebox compute whitebox compute not no longer is such a big deal but most definitely storage and networking while we desire to have these Solutions uh interesting point made by Andy Warfield from Coho data the CTO coh data as part of storage field date 8 today was that white
box switches kind of suck the quality uh is not that great and that's why they've had to partner specifically with Arista so when you think about deploying white box switches throughout your Enterprise you might say yeah Dale is a little bit too Dale I'm sorry Cisco might be a little bit too far on the value uh prop change on the other end meaning that the Delta between what you pay and what you get might be a little bit too high or too low uh whereas Dale
you still get a branded solution from someone with an Enterprise level footprint someone who can support your sites in Oklahoma or New York equally as well uh in Beijing China or or um in Taka Mexico the these places getting support uh for replacing out um pieces of Hardware is really really tough things to do when you talk about white box level support So Dell most definitely hasn't been given I think their proper due when it comes to the advantages they offer in an Enterprise especially as
a value play play so when you think of the sonic wall acquisition you think of quest software giving competition to the um big Network providers just as uh Aruba networds uh etc etc etc the value you get from a worldclass provider such as D I don't think that can be discounted so wanted to get in that quick hit as part of as Dell world is going on and I kind of weaved it into storage field day8 I'm trying to keep my eye on both I'll see
