CTO Daily Dose - NetApp Insight Final Day
Transcript
hey this is key for the CTO advisor comm which means CTO daily dose I'm coming to you live in a sense from Mandalay Bay Delano for NetApp 2017 recap you know what it's been a really interesting couple days especially given the recent events I highly encourage you to go back watch the cute video in which me and John Fourier talk through the impacts of the event on technology and as well as the call to action for technologists but with that aside as much as we can
put it aside talking about the the general impressions I get from net their storage company well isn't that Napa storage company net up is making some pretty interesting moves to move up higher up the technology stack you can't be your pure-play check storage company in this in today's IT industry business works just the solutions around data and companies like NetApp HPE Dale EMC Cisco are well-positioned to provide the basic infrastructure to add business value so they have to move higher up the stack and having those
conversations I've talked about this quite a bit both at HP discover Dale EMC world and a need for the technology companies to uplevel their conversation to so a different audience I have to admit NetApp got a really great job of uploading the compensation at least they spent a lot of time talking about the value of data and then trying to tie that to their data I think they call it the their data fabric so did I get did I were they able to connect the dots
from the keynote to on Tuesday to the keynote to the more technical technology focused key news on Wednesday you know what I think there is still a lot of work to be done there the reason why there's a lot of work to be done there because all of these companies Netta included are still mature their products and service and offerings to meet that higher standard of providing data and value for stacking value from the data today they're still very much all of these companies focused on
selling technologies and nuts necessarily the business services that need to go along with those technologies to provide that data or at least the advantage or the ability to leverage that data so you know what pretty much the recap from NetApp is dying 2017 a lot of great stuff on the stage from speeds and fees you know 100 gigabit InfiniBand with less than 100 microseconds of latency blah blah blah blah really great technology speeds and fees as you would expect on the second day of a technology
conference however we're starting to as technologists we're starting to move away from speeds of thieves that stuff is important to a segment but much more important to talk through the business value of the data that are held in the bits of these storage systems that's it for this CTO daily dose talk to you guys next daily dose follow me on the web the CTO advisor comm and on Twitter at CTO advisor thanks
