[Music] hey how's the wanna Steve Townsend from the CTO advisor and I'm joined with Chris Evans Chris how's it going I'm pretty good how are you so we're at AWS reinvent 2017 in Vegas and it's nice to see a friendly face yeah I was thinking exactly the same man this is uh and that's what today's CTO daily dose of about this is a completely different show yeah like from I've been to NetApp Dell EMC world vmworld a lot of worlds and this is nothing I like
I don't know anyone know I great I don't know what anybody can see behind us but obviously heading down that way is the the entrance to the expo for a registration and so on and farther in the distance is everybody wandering in and out I saw one person I knew apart from you yeah so I saw you and and my wife mentioned all someone recognized you but we were you know kind of holds me but I've been here for a few hours you have you've been
here since yesterday yeah and no one and this show is roughly about forty five forty eight thousand people yeah I keep hearing estimates I think last year is about thirty thirty-two right right and then maybe up to fifty this time I'm not sure but at least forty I would have thought and to think that and there are people sitting everywhere around this whole er people scattered everywhere so you'd think we would see a few people in here so stuff yeah so this is full-on Venetian and
if you're familiar with the sands ESPO there's kind of this corridor that people come down as this disk rush so it's a twenty can be a twenty thousand person conference fifty thousand uh perfect conference that crush really doesn't change no but there's a crusher people normally someone's let you know 280 Christine thousand gone yeah so what does that mean and it's all and in fact actually most of the time when I'm walking down I'm looking at all the faces coming towards me yeah okay so I
miss people because people say to me oh you didn't say hello and you think well I so I'm scanning every single face right but here I'm not seeing anybody so I just look at that and think is this literally a completely different audience you know I think I play more in the infrastructure area I don't think are these people developers business people not infrastructure I guess there must be can we were talking about that AWS his original customer was the non enterprise infrastructure guy so not
us there had 18 billion dollar run rate I guess there's an awful lot a lot more of those people then there are you know us traditional infrastructure people it kind of got me a little excited because it all feels new our good friend Julian wood from wood how do you know this IT were a a wood IT work he's in a conference talk he's in a session talking about building resilient service applications across regions right and this is like a traditional VMware guy doing something completely
completely different server list there's no vm's at all yeah and I can only assume that a lot of these customers are smaller enterprises maybe where they they wouldn't be the scale that we're used to of hundreds of millions of pounds worth of investment right but you know this you know they've got a 10 20 30 100 million pound investment so a bit lower but they're still big enough to to justify an IT department but they've obviously decided that clarity is more suitable for them not only
this sholde are expensive to send people to extra in AWS is a given way a whole lot you're coming to what you coming in as a vendor for the cube and I couldn't get a press pass can get an ALICE pass they never even answered me yeah they'd be like yeah so it this is quite different but I think it's a good thing I think there's a real vibe to it I know there's probably a lot of music in the background we can hear but this
generally it feels like a really positive vibe you know just I'm really looking forward to the other than and it's not just the scale I mean this show is spread across three or four different hotels in Vegas that's right it's taken over the strip it's a sizable conference whether it's IT or non IT this is a sizable conference yeah and I'm really excited to learn what are what drove users here why did they choose to come of all the shoals and you know we're after the
holidays here in the US Grassley the Thanksgiving holiday what what made customers come to this event what are they looking to get out of it why are they looking to grow where is it that both me and you haven't just frankly been looking in the market yeah a great so just in case people on the way we're in the Sam's which is between Palazzo in Venetian right there's a lot of stuff going on in MGM including some of the keynotes I think one of the keynotes
is at burg maybe both there's Aria where all the containers are professor Aria this link on least link area and probably something else I've forgotten as well as another one yeah there's a lot of stuff going on here and it's been going on since yesterday and and you think there's obviously a lot more drag of people wanting to understand how to work with data work of applications it's not an infrastructure conference anymore but now the infrastructure conference at all so I'm looking forward to this week
I'm looking forward to talking to customers I have a dinner tonight with a couple of four to five hundreds to really understand how their positioning AWS but also penetrating this smaller market all of these people are not fortune 500 the companies agree you are accustomed to dealing with writing about writing too and I'm looking to see what's driving what's the motivator behind it Chris where if people see this tonight where can they find you throughout the week sure on on the way up in general you
