AWS Lambda vs Kubernetes - Serverless vs. Containers

hey how's it going to keep Townsend from the CTO visor calm no this isn't clickbait this is a real conversation AWS lambda versus containers good friend of my good friend of mines Alex Ellis leads the open source project open faz that runs can functions as a service on containers and recently on Twitter a debate arose and this is a common refrain has lambda1 the containers are just some temporary construct that we're not going to worry about you know I don't like this argument this I don't
think this is a zero-sum game Simon Wortley has said that this is similar to the infrastructure-as-a-service argument from 2011 and which amazon had clearly already won and it was just a matter of time before everyone else caught up I don't think this is a zero-sum game I mean Klout is not even a zero-sum game sure there's going to be plenty of workloads going to infrastructure as a service platform as a service even functions as a service such as lambda but this isn't going to be a
all-or-nothing thing the itch is still very much a theme AWS with all of their prowess have not figured out that itch yet and there are situations where cloud just doesn't make sense there's a reason why a lot of companies are pulling back were closed especially traditional workloads from the cloud back on prim the argument around serverless versus containers is the same I mentioned my friend Alex Ellis of open files and they've combined the ideal of containers and service these functions run within containers there are going
to be use cases where functions as a service is not a abstraction layer you want to use you may want to use logic that has nothing to do functions or is better communicated and a non function based abstraction this is why containers and server lists in a bunch of different models will always be the case I do not like this argument that this is lambda versus containers so this is just gonna be the right tool for the right top job if you're worried about you know
what am i over investing and functions as a service versus containers versus lambda versus some other platform you know platform as a service if you're still writing applications based on sales forces platform as a service should you all of a sudden abandon that I don't think so this is going to be horses for courses argument I in this case do not even think that this is a valid argument of one versus the other if you enjoyed this content like it whether you're watching it on LinkedIn
