hey thanks for joining I'm Joe Peterson I'm the vice president of cloud and security for clarify 360. and I'm here today on behalf of the CTO advisor and their AWS everyday series and today we're going to of course talk about Cloud security today's topic is AWS Key Management Service or KMS AWS KMS is a managed service that's going to help you more easily create and control the keys that you're using for cryptographic operations the service provides you a highly available key generation storage management and auditing solution for you to encrypt or digitally sign data within your apps or control the encryption of data across your AWS services so if you're responsible for securing your data across AWS Services you should use it to centrally manage the encryption keys that control access to your data if you're a developer who needs to encrypt data in your apps you should use the AWS encryption SDK with AWS KMS to more easily generate use and protect symmetric encryption keys in your code if you're a developer who needs to digitally sign or verify data using asymmetric Keys you should use the service to create and manage the private Keys you're going to need if you're looking for a scalable Key Management infrastructure to support your developers and their growing number of apps you should use it to reduce your licensing cost and operational burden it's also in scope for a broad set of Industries and Regional compliance regimes so here's three use cases protect your data at rest activate server-side encryption with AWS KMS using KMS keys that you control and manage encrypt and decrypt data use AWS encryption SDK to securely handle cryptographic sessions or operations of your applications or sign and verify digital signatures protect signing operations with AWS KMS using asymmetric KMS keys thanks for joining
