AI Will Destroy IT?

[Music] put on my as my daughter calls it my pop-pop hit hey how's it going - steve townsend from the CTL advisor comm with another CTO dose we're going to talk about a topic that is both geeky and kind of business-related you know what before the the invention of the electronic spreadsheet where you can go to a pc create kind of these what-if scenarios it was very difficult for businesses to understand how they would change make a change to their business whether it's the cost of
a bill of material for building a their product or they change the price of the product it's very hard to predict the impact on the business the spreadsheet revolutionized the whole practice of financial accounting and the ability for organizations to determine how the impact of one part of the business or one part one element of the business had on the rest of the business ai and machine learning has the potential to do the same unintended side effect of that is that it really disrupted the book
bookkeeping profession the bookkeeping for profession as we knew it went away but it was replaced by the growth and financial accountants was a lot more people that use this tool this spreadsheet as a tool for managing organizations accounting systems AI machine learning the value is pretty self-evident if you have a tremendous amount of data about your customers your business associates associates your transactions the environment and logistics weather etc if you have all of this data from different sources and you can simply go to a computer
and ask it a star trek-like question of hey you know what what will be the impact on sales if weather trends continue in the southeast versus the northwest as a CEO as a business leader extremely valuable information we're getting to the point that systems will be able to do that one day we're not there yet however businesses are demanding this type of capability when you look at what SI p is doing or oracle is doing in their business suite the drive to be able to have
intelligent answers some you have to push that usage not to just the IT experts but that intelligence down to the business layer you will see my prediction that you'll see companies not just the S ApS of the world but the VMware's the Cisco the traditional infrastructure companies pushing these prepackaged type email AI solutions all the way down to the business user what's the impact on the business of IT how will the industry react if the VMware's of the world or the Siskel's of the world are
selling directly to end-users bypassing traditional IT shops what will be the impact will we see a reduction in the number of bookkeepers aka IT workers or and will we see a resulting growth in a completely adjacent business what is that business whether you add value I'd love to have an open conversation about this you can find me on LinkedIn to have this conversation this video is posted on LinkedIn if you're not already watching it comment and the stats below we can have the conversation on the
YouTube video comment on YouTube or you can follow me on twitter at CTO advisor engage with me I'm pretty active we can have the conversation what do you think the future of IT will be when AI is so directly to the end-user do you even think that's gonna happen until the next CTO dose you can follow me on the web the CTO advisor comm where you can subscribe to these rambling thoughts and you can see more pop pop heads or more t-shirts if you're a vendor
